Brandon sidelined with bone contusion on knee

Brandon Roy suffered a bone contusion in his right knee in Sunday’s win over the Lakers, and will be held out of Monday’s home game against Oklahoma City.

Roy underwent an MRI Sunday night upon his arrival in Portland and the test revealed a bone bruise.

He will not play against the Thunder on Monday and will be re-evaluated before Wednesday’s season finale against Golden State.

Brandon hurt his knee in the first quarter while playing defense against Ron Artest. Roy said he tried to front Artest, and in the process of trying to establish position, Artest stepped on Roy’s right foot. At the same time, Roy’s momentum kept him going right, and with his foot planted by Artest’s foot, his knee felt what Roy called a “sharp” pain.

Roy continued to play, but on his next shot attempt he said the knee felt like it was “buckling,” so he asked to be taken out of the game. When he returned in the second quarter, there were more troubling signs.

“The second time I went in, I just couldn’t make any moves on it,’‘ Roy said. “It didn’t feel right. It didn’t feel right at all.’‘
